Alice Through the Looking-Glass

The story of Through the Looking-Glass is a real family favourite, following Alice's fantastical adventures in the strange world she enters through the mirror above her drawing-room fireplace.

What she finds there is a world laid out in the form of a giant chess board and before long Alice finds herself entering the game as a white pawn. The story follows her travels across the board until she is crowned queen at the eighth square and along the way she encounters some of Carroll's most memorable and enduring characters, among them Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Walrus and the Carpenter, The Lion and the Unicorn, and the Jabberwock. The piece is also filled with many fine nonsense poems and songs which are still quoted from today.

This is a brand new adaptation by Michael Whitmore, faithfully charting the fabulous, wonderful and rather perplexing world created by the great Lewis Carroll and retaining the particularly British humour and quirkiness we've all come to hold dear in these classic tales: truly a show for all the family.

Quantum Theatre - about the company

Quantum Theatre produces and tours original work and adaptations of the classics into theatres, schools and outdoor venues throughout the UK and Ireland.

All of our work is written (or adapted) and produced by the artistic director, Michael Whitmore who has evolved Quantum's now characteristic style; pacey, humorous musical theatre accessible to all ages whether it be Michael's own plays or his adaptations of the classics such as Shakespeare and Dickens.

In recent years Quantum has staged the much-loved classic 'Treasure Island', that favourite flight of fancy 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', the fantastical family favourite 'Álice Through the Looking Glass' and now the Dickens classic 'Great Expectations'. All the shows provide a fun, dramatic and magical couple of hours for their audiences, with humour, grit and live music to delight and entertain.

This coming Summer (2010) sees the return of 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' as well as our brand new adaptation of 'Great Expectations' and we look forward to captivating our audience members once more with both productions.
